Student Wellness Center Style Guide
Redesigning the Style Guide for new employees
The Student Wellness Center offers San Jose State University (SJSU) students medical services, counseling sessions, peer health education programs, COVID-19 testing, and health advisories. I was in charge of its social media presence on Instagram and Facebook.
My manager and I noticed other student assistants were struggling with implementing the Student Wellness Center’s branding and were confused by Trello’s interface. My audience consisted of public health majors who did not have a marketing or design background. The previous style guide was too short and did not explain processes. I wanted to create visual tutorials that were easy to understand. I started the table of contents and identified major sections. I created the new style guide with Canva, Photoshop, and Trello. I wrote step-by-step instructions and suggested best practices. I performed user testing and got feedback from other student assistants throughout the process.
All student assistants improved their understanding of marketing and graphic design concepts. They also reference this guide when using Trello (a project management software) and writing/designing social media feature posts. The Student Wellness Center’s social media pages improved its brand consistency.
